Learn to Let it Be Words and Music by Richard F. Howard © 7/13/2013 (V1) If you’re crying on your pillow Because you had a real bad day When the sun comes up tomorrow It will chase those blues away So close your eyes and realize You’ve done all you can do When you wake up in the morning Think of something new (Pre) It’s another day in paradise Another chance to make things right (Chorus) So spin around Round and round But when you hit the ground Let it be, let it be girl Learn to let it be Let it be, let it be girl Learn to let it be Let it be (V2) If you’ve got a little problem And it’s getting out of hand ‘Cuz your twelve-step solution Didn’t turn out like you planned Just take a break and when you wake Everything’s gonna be alright It’ll all work out tomorrow If you sleep on it tonight (Pre) It’s another day in paradise Another chance to make things right (Chorus) So spin around Round and round But when you hit the ground Let it be, let it be girl Learn to let it be Let it be, let it be girl Learn to let it be Let it be (Bridge) Don’t let every problem be a new catastrophe Every situation’s going to turn out differently Sometime in the future it will all be history So try To learn To let it be (V3) If your life is complicated And you don’t know what to do Take a moment to remember It’s not all up to you So call a friend and in the end Just do whatever’s right Yesterday can be forgotten When the future’s looking bright (Pre) It’s another day in paradise baby Another chance to make things right (Chorus) So spin around Round and round But when you hit the ground Let it be, let it be girl Learn to let it be Let it be, let it be girl Learn to let it be (Outro) Let it be Learn to let it be Let it be Learn to let it be Let it be Learn to let it be Let it be

Saint Peter’s Dilemma Words and Music by Richard F. Howard © 5/13/2013 (V1) Heaven must be missing an angel, because she’s dancing right here with me Someone must have opened up the Pearly Gates and left them unattended; she got free Now I’m standing here thinking as a matter of fact I can pretty much guarantee Heaven must be missing an angel because she’s dancing right here with me Now old Saint Peter must be pulling his beard trying to figure out what went wrong He left the gate open and she ran away. We’ve been dancing all night long So Saint Peter’s dilemma is a blessing of mine, I can pretty much guarantee Heaven must be missing an angel because she’s dancing right here with me <Musical Interlude> (V2) Heaven must be missing an angel; she’s as pretty as she can be Her lips are red like a cherry pie; her eyes are the color of the deep blue sea Now I’m standing here thinking as a matter of fact I can pretty much guarantee Heaven must be missing an angel because she’s dancing right here with me Now old Saint Peter must be scratching his head trying to figure out what to do But she’s with me so heaven can wait. I’m in love and she is too So Saint Peter’s dilemma is a blessing of mine, I can pretty much guarantee Heaven must be missing an angel because she’s dancing right here with me (Bridge) Poor old Saint Peter what can he do? She wants to dance the whole night through (V3) Heaven must be missing an angel because an angel is what I found There ain’t no halo up above her head and her wings fell off when she hit the ground But I’m standing here thinking as a matter of fact I can pretty much guarantee Heaven must be missing an angel because she’s dancing right here with me (Outro) Yeah heaven must be missing an angel because she’s dancing right here She’s not up there She’s dancing right here with me

Fishin' Hole 03:40
Fishing Hole Words & Music by Richard F. Howard © 09/04/2013 (Chorus) Fishing hole, fishing hole Tackle box and an old cane pole I got beer in the ice chest. Lord they’re getting good and cold I just might never leave this fishing hole (V1) Well I called in to work and told the boss I was sick I don’t know if he believed me cuz I piled it on thick But I don’t really care because I’m already here Baiting my hook and drinking ice-cold beer I got a bucket of worms that I’m using for bait Done fired up the grill because I just couldn’t wait Gonna throw them fish right onto the coals just as Fast as I can pull them from the fishing hole (Chorus) Fishing hole, fishing hole Tackle box and an old cane pole I got beer in the ice chest. Lord they’re getting good and cold I just might never leave this fishing hole (Musical Interlude) (V2) You take the old dirt road behind Strawberry Ridge You can park right there by the railroad bridge Put your boat in the water; get ready to go Float downstream about a mile or so, and When the creek widens out then you’ll know that you’re here You can pull the boat over and unload your gear Look under the tree you’ll see I’m already there Kicked back fishing in my folding chair (Chorus) Fishing hole, fishing hole Tackle box and an old cane pole I got beer in the ice chest. Lord they’re getting good and cold I just might never leave this fishing hole (Bridge) Could this be heaven Lord? Did I die today? If this is the Promised Land I just might have to stay (at the) (Chorus) Fishing hole, fishing hole Tackle box and an old cane pole I got beer in the ice chest. Lord they’re getting good and cold I just might never leave this fishing hole (Tag) I just might never leave this fishing hole I just might never leave this fishing hole

Daddy’s Little Girl Words and Music by Richard F. Howard © 6/1/2012 (V1) She was going to be a little ballerina Dancing in a meadow underneath a silver moon So we got a tutu and bought some fancy dance shoes Signed her up for lessons every evening after school Then she decided that she didn’t want to dance Said it made her sick when she would twirl Well I never said a thing. She was always daddy’s little girl (V2) Then right after high school she thought that it would be cool To carry on to college and become an engineer I co-signed all her student loans, bought her a new cell phone And she got me a t-shirt that said daddy of the year Higher education didn’t last for very long She said that she had given it a whirl Well I never said a thing. She was always daddy’s little girl (Bridge) Maybe I should have put my foot down now and then But I just couldn’t stand to see her cry Maybe things would have turned out different if I did But I always hoped that pain would pass her by Yeah I never said a thing She was always daddy’s little girl. (V3) So she joined the Army. She never even warned me. Just sent a note from Basic saying everything’s OK Then a man in uniform came by the house to inform us Our daughter had died bravely on the battlefield that day He called her a hero and he handed us a flag A flag that’ll never be unfurled I just broke down and cried. She was always daddy’s little girl. (Bridge) Maybe I should have put my foot down now and then But I just couldn’t stand to see her cry Maybe things would have turned out better if I did But I always hoped that pain would pass her by Yeah I never said a thing She was always daddy’s little girl. Daddy’s little girl…

Chicken Neck Dog Words & Music by Richard F. Howard © 7/11/14 (V1) I read this story in the paper today A man was giving his dog away He said he was selling his stuff and moving abroad He’d already sold most everything His house, his car, his watch, his rings And he asked if anyone wanted to take his dog (V2) He said I’m sick but a doctor in France Will take my case and give me a chance To stay alive at least for a year or two But I can’t take the dog with me So if you want him he’s yours for free Just give me a moment and I’ll describe him to you (Chorus I) He’s a chicken neck dog, chicken neck dog Skinny as a weed but he eats like a hog Throw him a bone he’ll jump like a frog He’s a chicken neck dog…. He’s a boon companion and I have to say If you want to help me out today Please come take away this chicken neck dog (8 Bar Interlude) (V3) He said I’ve had this dog since he was a pup …When I’m down he cheers me up He’s quiet as a mouse, he don’t bark or bite He’s a Heinz 57; he’s a one of a kind His left eye’s blue and the other one’s blind And he likes to play dead whenever he gets in a fight (Chorus II) He’s a chicken neck dog, chicken neck dog Sleeps all day like a bump on a log Waits right here when you go for a jog He’s a chicken neck dog…. He’s a boon companion and I have to say If you want to help me out today Please come take away this chicken neck dog (Musical Bridge) (V4) So I called up the number on the telephone And the man said look, I’m sorry son But I’m no longer giving that dog away He said I don’t want to live another year or three If I can’t take my dog with me So I changed my mind and decided that I’m gonna stay (Chorus III) With my chicken neck dog, chicken neck dog Didn’t go to Paris, and we didn’t go to Prague Don’t like the city cuz there’s too much smog For a chicken neck dog… He’s my boon companion and I have to say He’ll be with me until my dying day I’m just gonna stay with my chicken neck dog I can’t give away this chicken neck dog I’m just gonna play with my chicken neck dog

about

If I had to use one word to describe the music on this album it would be "Fun". Grumpy Puppy's name itself was born from a sense of ironic humor. He is neither "grumpy" nor a "pup".

Born and raised in the swamps of Southeastern Louisiana, Richard F. Howard (aka Grumpy Puppy) writes catchy little tunes that get caught in your head. His subject matter varies widely. The title track, "Fishin' Hole" is about the joys of fishing. "Chicken Neck Dog" is about a man trying to give his dog away. There is even a song about an angel escaping from heaven so she can go dancing (St. Peter's Dilemma).

Grumpy Puppy's musical influences also vary widely. Growing up he listened to old-time country (think Hank Williams and Jimmie Rogers), Southern Fried Rock & Roll (think Lynard Skynard and Blacksnake) and the swampy blues and Mardi Gras music of New Orleans.

So here we have in one collection, 10 of Grumpy Puppy's greatest hits (the 11th track is an acoustic version of Fishin' Hole). He has lots more where these came from, so stay tuned for the next installment from Grumpy Puppy. But in the meantime, enjoy listening to these songs and thank you very much for stopping by.
